Snow?

Last year the ski season in Squaw opened on Oct 30, the earliest openening of the ski season ever. This year, it seems like we are having one of the latest season starts ever...

The tempreatures in Squaw are in the low 50s the next couple of days!

The text on Squaw's website says it all:

"Come on out for hiking, shopping and high altitude dining Bring the entire family to Squaw Valley USA's High Camp, el. 8,200', There's plenty to do at Squaw Valley USA."

At least they are honest :). I guess I will spend the Thanksgiving holidays on my mountainbike this year!

Just a few more days

It's just 10 more days before we will (hopefully) be hitting the slopes in Lake Tahoe. To get in the mood, here is the Squaw Valley live webcam. Enjoy :)

Warren Miller movie

Last weekend we went to see Warren Miller's 56th (!) annual ski movie called Higher Ground. Wow, what an inspiration for the upcoming ski season! See: http://www.warrenmiller.com. The movie has some fantastic big mountain skiing in Alaska, Switzerland and Colorado.

Snowing in Lake Tahoe

Andy from The Unofficial Alpine Meadows Ski Report comes with some good news today:

I have returned to Lake Tahoe to witness the sky darken, temperatures drop, winds howl, and rain or snow fall to the ground. The weather people say this will continue for a day or two with snow levels dropping as time moves along. No one is predicting enough snow to begin the ski season, but the ground is cooling and the possibility seems to be in the air. Perhaps we will luck out and have a few slopes available for Thanksgiving.

Not as good as last year when we made our first tracks on October 30, but I don't complain :)
