Waiting for news from Tomas & More summits

We are still waiting for more news from Tomas. We'll update as soon as he calls again!

The Turkish team on the North is the first team to publish summit pictures this year. It is on the interactive Everest map. We'll add more summit pictures to the map as they are send over from Everest.

Russel Brice's Himalayan Experience (Himex) has succesfully placed 27 people on top the last 2 days. Among them 8 Tibetans and 7 Nepalese.

Son Dorjee and Dorji Sonam Gyalgen, both from Nepal, reached the summit earlier this year already! Two summits within 20 days is a BIG achievement. Congratulations! From the the Himex site it even looks as if Son Dorjee summitted three times this year... but that's unclear. We have asked Russell to confirm.

12 summits today by the Himex team

8 Sherpas and 4 members of the Himalayan Experience team reached the summit on Sunday morning. Makes me wonder how many of the 8 Sherpas were among the 6 that reached the summit on April 30 and summited twice this year! Hopefully word from Russell on that soon.

Their second team is going up on the 15th, with a perfect weather forecast.

The Everest Peace Project has started their summit attempt on the North, too. Their tentative summit day is May 18th.

On the South teams are launching their summit attempts, too. Adventure Consultants and Alpine Ascents are planning their summit attempts around May 18 or 19.

News from Tomas and Tormod

The Vikings just checked back in and confirmed the earlier news of their successful ski descent from 7500 meter to the Central Rongbuk glacier. They had been out of touch because their satellite phone credits ran out.

They are now recovering in New Tingri before heading back up the mountain. Their update and pictures are coming soon!

More pictures from Everest North route

Jamie McGuinness (Project Himalaya / Everest Peace Project) runs the biggest operation on the Everest North Side this year. The last 2 days he took some phenomenal pictures, that give a great overview of the route from ABC to the North Col. The pictures can be viewed on the map on the location they were taken.

Pictures of avalanche on camp 1 (April 20)

I wanted to publish this earlier, but it slipped off my radar.... The pictures are too specactular to forget. So better late then never....

2 weeks ago, on April 22, Paul and Fi Adler posted this series of photos of an avalanche bearing down on Camp 1. Their team member Jim Gagne took these pictures, while everyone else was diving for cover. Nobody got hurt.

The pictures can be viewed on the interactive Everest map

The original pictures were posted on Paul and Fi's website: http://www.adlers.com.au

Sherpa team reaches summit!

There were some rumors, and now Russell Brice's site confirms it:

Well we all woke up this morning pinching ourselves to ensure the results of yesterday were true, that 6 of our Sherpa team led by Phurba Tashi summited Mount Everest at 15.05 hours, 30 April!

It was an even more exciting moment at 20.45 hours yesterday, yes only 5 hours 50 minutes after summiting, when the team walked back into ABC, what an acheivement.
