Hello skiers,
It was cold and windy on Sunday morning at Alpine, but nothing like Monday. The east wind blew a gale over much of the mountain on Monday closing Summit, as plumes of snow rose into the sky. The east winds scoured many of the slopes leaving stiff uneven snow in its wake. Sunny skies and lower level east winds greeted skiers this morning. The upper mountain was open today, although Summit was on wind alert. The top of Scott, Lakeview, and Sherwood, however were open in a windless condition. Moguls have grown over the last few days in those areas not creased by the winds. The surface of lower level and protected slopes remains in good winter condition assisted by cold overnight temperatures. Counter Weight Gully, Gentian Gully, Peter’s Peril, and the Sister’s were all in fine condition today. D7, Palisades, and other upper slopes need to be skied out before the wind driven creases turn back into good winter skiing trails. The groomed runs were all excellent today, as these trails are in winter condition. South Face and the runs under Sherwood Chair were also pleasant this morning, although they were beginning to feel the effects of two days of sun exposure.
